Who was Ermengarde of Tours?
Ermengarde of Tours was the daughter of Hugh of Tours, a member of the Etichonen family, which claimed descent from the Merovingian kings. In October 821 in Diedenhofen, she married the Carolingian Emperor Lothair I of the Franks.
In 849, two years before her death, she made a donation to the abbey Erstein in the Elsass, in which she is buried.
Lothair and Ermengarde had nine children:
Louis II, Holy Roman Emperor.

Bertha, became before 847 Abbess of Avenay, perhaps Äbtissin of Faremoutiers
A daughter of unknown name, called Ermengarde in later sources, kidnapped 846 by Gilbert, Count of the Maasgau, who then married her
