Who is Eva Moskowitz?

Eva Sarah Moskowitz is founder and CEO of Success Academy Charter Schools and was a City Councilmember for the Upper East Side, both in New York City.

Her later work has centered on education. Besides founding Success Academy Charter Schools, she has worked with the Harlem Education Fair, runs the Great Public Schools PAC, StudentsFirstNY, and worked with the New York City Charter School Center. She coauthored Mission Possible with Arin Lavinia, mainly a guide to running charter schools. She has a Ph.D in history, authored In Therapy We Trust, and wrote a scholarly study of Betty Friedan's work in 1996.

In Moskowitz' electoral political career, while in the City Council she chaired the Education Committee and she later lost a primary election to be the Democratic party nominee for Manhattan Borough President. She has been opposed by the union the United Federation of Teachers, in every election. According to the Wall Street Journal's Lisa Fleisher, Moskowitz has had support from parents of students in her charter schools.
