Who was Ezekiel C. Gathings?
Ezekiel Candler Gathings was a U.S. Representative from Arkansas.
Born in Prairie, Mississippi, Gathings attended the public schools and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. He was graduated from the law department of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1929. He was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Helena, Arkansas. He moved to West Memphis, Arkansas, in 1932 and continued the practice of law. He served in the State senate 1935–1939.
Gathings was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth and to the fourteen succeeding Congresses. He was not a candidate for reelection in 1968 to the Ninety-first Congress. He resumed the practice of law. He served as a member of West Memphis, Arkansas, Port Authority.
Gathings resided in West Memphis, Arkansas, where he died May 2, 1979. He was interred in Crittenden Memorial Park, Marion, Arkansas.
