Who was Umm ul-Banin?

Fatimah bint Hizam al-Qilabiyya, commonly known as Umm ul-Banin, married Ali, after the death of his first wife Fatimah. Ummul Banin and Ali had four sons, of which the eldest was Al-Abbas ibn Ali. Also Uthman ibn Ali who was martyred at the battle. Her two other sons were Abdullah ibn Ali and Jafar ibn Ali. Shimr ibn Dhi 'l-Jawshan who killed Husayn ibn Ali in the Battle of Kerbala was a brother to Ummul Banin, who before the battle commenced granted safe passage to his sister and her sons, which they rejected since the amnesty did not include Husayn ibn Ali.
