Who is Fiona Balfour?
Fiona Balfour is an Australian businesswoman. She is best known for the changes she made at Qantas during the 1990s, having joined the airline in 1992. In 2006, she was Telstra's high profile appointment as Chief Information Officer. She shocked many by leaving that position only 10 months into her term.
Prior to joining Qantas, she had worked for a range of management consulting firms and the Victorian Public Service. Balfour holds a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, for which she also has a fellowship. She has received numerous honours for her work, such as the Pearcey Medal and the Award for Excellence in Management from the Australian Telecommunications Users Group.
Balfour is now a private consultant, as well as being on boards for such companies as Metcash, TAL, Salmat, and Knox Grammar School. She currently lives with her family in Sydney's North Shore.
