Frederick Suppe

Who is Frederick Suppe?

Frederick Suppe is a professor Emeritus of philosophy at the University of Maryland. He has prominent work in the philosophy of science including much work with the semantic view of theories. Since 2000, he teaches as Professor of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures at Texas Tech University, since 2002 he is also chair of the Department.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and has research interests in the philosophy of science, epistemology and metaphysics, philosophical theology and philosophy of gender.

His notable works on the semantic view of theories include Suppe, Frederick, ed., The Structure of Scientific Theories. and, The Semantic Conception of Theories and Scientific Realism.

The spelling of his name is very close to that of a different philosopher Patrick Suppes who also did prominent work in the philosophy of science and on the semantic view of theories, in particular.
