Who is Gappy Ranks?
Gappy Ranks is a British dancehall musician of Jamaican and Dominican origin. He is also known as Jacob Lee Williams. His love for music started in his hometown Harlesden, London where he was born and raised.
At a young age he would perform for crowds within his hometown and for friends and family who encouraged him to continue.
After growing up in North West London, Gappy Ranks dealt with numerous obstacles including homelessness after leaving school. This resulted in his music taking a back seat. However, once he overcame these obstacles he joined focus with childhood friend and fellow local artist "Redmann" From there, he was enlisted in the UK Dancehall growl "Suncycle" with local artists such as Cash Money, Lady Chann & Naff Skrilla.
The grouped by recording artist "Dolmite" received help from community radio stations such as Beat Fm & Unique Radio. Their 1st Album titled 'Suncyle' in which Gappy Ranks recorded his anthem 'Harlesden' which proclaimed his love for his community.
Their second album I Am Somebody was released on he UK label Jamdown Records and from it came such hits as the album title track 'I am Somebody' on the smash hit 'Riddim Coolie Dance' produced By Jamaican producer Scatta Burrell.
