Who is Gaylord Schanilec?

Gaylord Schanilec is a notable American wood engraver & printer. He is the proprietor of the press Midnight Paper Sales, located in Stockholm, Wisconsin. Schanilec has used traditional wood engraving processes to create illustrations for hundreds of works.

He graduated with a BA in visual arts from the University of North Dakota in 1977. He worked in the Twin Cities until he relocated to Stockholm, Wisconsin, where he built the studio in which he now works.

Schanilec is a frequent lecturer and leads workshops at Minnesota Center for Book Arts & University of Iowa. His works can be found in the collections of major academic institutions and museums.
