Who was Georg Karck?
Georg Karck was a Sturmbannführer in the Waffen-SS who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
Karck joined the SS on 1 October 1931. He was the commander of the 9th Company, 2nd SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment, 1st SS Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler when he was awarded the Knight's Cross.
He subsequently commanded the 2nd Battalion, 2nd SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment LSSAH, and was killed in a road traffic accident in Normandy, France. At the time, he was driving at night with the vehicle lights off to avoid allied aircraft attack. He received posthumous promotion to SS-Sturmbannführer in the reserve in order to secure an improved widow's pension.
