George Lewis Capwell Cronin, the American manager of the Empresa Eléctrica del Ecuador in Guayaquil, Ecuador, founded Club Sport Emelec, an association football team, in 1929. Emelec, named for the first syllable of each word in the company's name, is one of Ecuador's leading football clubs.
