Who was George Fried?

George Fried was an American sea captain. He commanded the passenger liner SS President Roosevelt of the United States Lines during the famous rescue of the crew of the British ship Antinoe in the Atlantic Ocean in January 1926.

On February 16, 1926, he and his crew were honored with ticker-tape parade in New York City for their heroism. On January 28, 1929, Captain Fried became one of the individuals honored with multiple parades, when he and the crew of the America were again honored with another ticker-tape parade for rescue of those on the Italian freighter Florida.
