Who is George Vukovich?
George Stephen Vukovich, is a retired Major League Baseball outfielder. He played all or part of six seasons in the majors from 1980 to 1985 for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Indians. He also played two seasons in Japan for the Seibu Lions in 1986 and 1987.
Vukovich was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 4th round of the 1977 amateur draft. He made his major league debut as a pinch hitter on April 13, 1980, against the Montreal Expos. Following the 1982 season he was traded to the Cleveland Indians for Von Hayes.
Vukovich attended college at Southern Illinois University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
