Who is Gil Shohat?
Gil Shohat is an Israeli classical music composer, conductor and pianist.
Shohat was born in 1973 in Israel to the Ha'aretz journalist Tzipora Shohat. His first orchestral work was performed by the Israel Chamber Orchestra when he was 18. During his national service he served as commander of the Israel Defense Forces Chamber Orchestra. He is a graduate of the Tel Aviv Conservatorium and of the Tel Aviv University School of Music. He studied composition and musicology in Rome and Cambridge. He composed nine symphonies, eleven concertos, four operas and over fifty chamber and solo compositions. He was named Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters of France in 2009. Shohat lives in Jaffa with his life partner.
