Gilbert Dupre
Person
Who is Gilbert Dupre?
Gilbet Dupre was a Louisiana State Representative of Opelousas. Dupre is known for being an opponent of Louisiana Governor Huey Long and specifically of the new Louisiana State Capitol that Long was trying to get approved. At the time of Huey Long's senatorship Dupre was an elderly deaf man and when Dupre stood out against the creation of the new capitol building Huey Long had a hole drilled in the roof directly above Dupre's office in the Old Louisiana State Capitol as punishment for Dupre's opposition. Unfortunately it tends to rain a lot in Baton Rouge especially when Congress is in session. By December 1931 Dupre had finally aligned himself with Long and had to speak out against an opponent of Long's named Dudley Leblanc in the Louisiana Progress.
