Who was Giulio Antonio Santorio?

Giulio Antonio Santorio was an Italian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Santorio was born in Caserta. He served as Archbishop of Santa Severina from 1566 until his death.

Santorio was elevated to Cardinal on 17 May 1570, and installed as the Cardinal-Priest of S. Bartolomeo all'Isola the same year, subsequently as the Cardinal-Priest of S. Maria in Trastevere and as the Cardinal-Bishop of Palestrina. Santorio was consecrated to the episcopacy by Scipione Rebiba. Through his own episcopal consecration of Girolamo Bernerio, Cardinal Santorio is in the episcopal lineage of Pope Francis, Pope Benedict XVI, and most modern bishops.
