Who is Given Lubinda?

Given Lubinda is a Member of the National Assembly of Zambia for Kabwata Constituency, and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of Zambia. He is also the chairman for Information and publicity for the Patriotic Front which is the ruling party in Zambia led by Michael Sata. He is known as an outspoken politician.

He came under criticism from both members of the then ruling party and the opposition for voicing concerns on issues such as expenditure after the Zambian government planned and eventually increased salaries and allowances for both Ministers and Members of Parliament following the death of President Levy Mwanawasa. Lubinda is also seen by some as a possible successor to the aging Zambian President Michael Sata who became president in September, 2011 after failing to win Presidential elections in 2001, 2006 and 2008. However, the current constitution of Zambia bars individuals who have one parent who isn't an "indigenous" Zambian from being President so the chances of Lubinda standing for Presidential office remain unlikely. Lubinda is of mixed-race parentage, his father was a Swedish volunteer. .
