Who was Gopal Chandra Bhattacharya?
Gopal Chandra Bhattacharya was an Indian entomologist and naturalist known for his pioneering work on social insects and the role of bacteria in metamorphosis. He is the author of bAnglAr kITa-patanga, which won the Rabindra Puraskar, Bengal's highest literary award, in 1975.
He is also noted for his work on the popularization of science, especially the three-volume text on hands-on science, kare dekha, lit. kare =do, dekha =see. Over his career, he contributed more than 1000 articles on science to most of the popular Bengali periodicals of the time.
