Who was Gordon L. McDonough?

Gordon Leo McDonough was a U.S. Representative from California.

Born in Buffalo, New York, McDonough moved with his parents to Emporium, Pennsylvania, in 1898. He attended the public schools. He was graduated from the high school at Emporium, Pennsylvania. He engaged as an industrial chemist at Emporium, Pennsylvania from 1915 to 1918. He moved to Los Angeles, California, and resumed his former occupation 1918-1933. Married to Catherine McNeil together they raised seven children: Gordon, Paul, Marie, Vincent, Thomas, James, and Lucille. He served as member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors 1933-1944, serving as chairman for one year.

McDonough was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-ninth and to the eight succeeding Congresses. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1962 to the Eighty-eighth Congress. He died in Bethesda, Maryland, June 25, 1968. He was interred in Holy Cross Mausoleum, Los Angeles, California.
