Who was Gunnar Åkerlund?

Ernst Gunnar Åkerlund was a Swedish sprint canoer who competed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won two medals in the K-2 10000 m event with a gold in 1948 and a silver in 1952.

Åkerlund won three medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with two golds and a silver.

He was born and died in Nyköping, Södermanland County.
