Who is Guru Baaje?

Born as a Dharma Gurung in Dhanubas but lovingly called Dharmu, he became famous as Dhanu Guru in 18th century Nepal when people realized his extra ordinary mastership in archery but later was called Guru Baaje for his profund wisdom on the dharma when he moved to kalabang Gareti, Pumdibhumdi, Nepal.

In the 18th century Nepal when the country was still not unified by Prithvi Narayan Shah there were 22 and 24 states in the west. The 24 states were collectively called Chaubisi rajya and it was in the region of Gandak.

It was at this time that a program of archery was held in Nuwakot by the king of Nuwakot. In this program Dharma Gurung representing kaski state and Malla Thakuri of Baglung representing Parbat were called for regarding the well known mastership of their archery. Obviously Dharmu Gurung and Malla Thakuri reached the final. Malla Thakuri took the first attempt and he broke the thread in the sky. In the turn of Dharma Gurung he said its meaningless to hit such a thread of easyness. Then when the King asked what type of thread he likes to hit for, he said looking to the mirror in front I want to hit the thread in the sky back. And lo! In this way he hit the thread turned into two. As Dharmu gurung who was the representative of Kaski state won the game, when he was back the king of kaski asked him to ask for any boon and it is at this time that he asked to give the Kaaloban to be granted where he can build his commune of lineage and practice dharma at its highest level.
