György Cziffra, Jr.
Musical Artist
– 1981
Who was György Cziffra, Jr.?
György Cziffra, Jr. was a Hungarian conductor. He nearly died as a child during imprisonment with his family when his father, famous pianist Georges Cziffra who had served in the Hungarian during World War II, was arrested for political reasons by communist authorities after World War II. György and his father worked together on several recordings and live performances.
He was a brilliant pianist like his father, but he decided to turn to conducting.
Cziffra Jr. died by setting fire to his house in the Paris suburbs. A suicide note was found in the remains, thus his death was ruled a suicide. The unofficial story however, is that his death was an accident. Naturally, his father was heartbroken, and from that day on he never performed or recorded with orchestra again.
