Who was Hans B. Ringger?
Hans Benjamin Ringger was a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1985 to his death and was the first native of Switzerland to become a general authority of the LDS Church.
Ringger was born in Zurich, Switzerland to Latter-day Saint parents Carl Ringger and Maria Reif. Prior to his becoming a general authority, Ringger served in the church as a bishop, stake president, and Regional Representative of the Twelve Apostles. Ringger became a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1985. On September 30, 1995, Ringger was given general authority emeritus status and released from active duties in the church. His father Carl Ringger served as an LDS Church stake patriarch for many years.
Ringger married Helene Susy Zimmer in 1952 and they were sealed in the Swiss Temple after it was completed in 1955. The couple had four grown children.
Ringger died at home in Basel, Switzerland at age 84.
