Who was Hans-Peter Vietze?
Hans-Peter Vietze was a German Mongolist. He was the editor of a Mongolian-German dictionary, and worked as translator on a broad range of occasions.
Hans-Peter Vietze completed his studies in Mongolian, Turkic and Altaic Studies at Berlin's Humboldt University in 1960. In the following years, he travelled to Mongolia several times, completed his doctorate, and in 1976 he became Professor for Mongolian studies at the Humboldt University. In the early 2000s, he worked as a freelance translator and counselor. On Sundays, he could usually be found at Berlin's Tegel Airport, assisting the immigration department with handling incoming MIAT passengers.
