Who is Harald Gjessing?
Harald Gustav Antonio Gjessing was a Norwegian ophthalmologist.
He was born in Drammen as a son of ship-owner Harald Francisco Antonio Gjessing and his wife Caroline Kierulf. He was a nephew of philologist Gustav Antonio Gjessing, and a first cousin of Helge Gjessing.
He took the examen artium in 1901, and graduated in medicine in 1908. After various jobs as well as further studies, he settled in Drammen in 1911 to work as an ophthalmologist. He conducted several study trips abroad during his career, including recurring stays in Vienna to assist Ernst Fuchs. Other influences came from Søren Holth. Gjessing took the dr.med. degree in 1920, and published in medical journals and other press.
