Who was Harry Varley?
Henry "Harry" Varley was a rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1890s, playing representative level rugby union for England, and at club level for Liversedge, as a Scrum-half, i.e. number 9, and playing club level rugby league for Oldham, as a Stand-off/Five-eighth, or Scrum-half/Halfback, i.e. number 6, or, 7, alongside Arthur Lees from 1895. Prior to Thursday 29 August 1895, Liversedge was a rugby union club.
