Who is Héctor Rivadavia Gómez?

Héctor Rivadavia Gomez was responsible for first proposing the idea of a South American football confederation, the origins of CONMEBOL. An old personal project of Gómez, it became a distinct possibility during a South American Championship held in Buenos Aires between July 2 and July 17, 1916, as part of the commemorations of Argentina's independence centenary. On July 9, the football leaders of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay met in Buenos Aires to study his idea, which was approved ad-referendum by each of the national associations.
