Who was Henry Throop Stanton?
Henry Throop Stanton was an American poet, best known for his poem "The Moneyless Man".
Stanton was born in Alexandria, Virginia and educated in Maysville, Kentucky. He attended West Point for a time, but did not graduate. He later made a living as an editor and as a lawyer. During the American Civil War, Stanton served as the adjutant general of the Confederate States of America. Afterward, he returned to editing. Stanton died in Frankfort, Kentucky, in 1899.
