Who was Hiram Barney?
Hiram Barney was Collector of the Port of New York from 1861 - 1864. He was born in Henderson, Jefferson County, New York and graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York, in 1834. Barney was Collector during the first three years of the administration of Abraham Lincoln. He resigned and refused an appointment to a foreign mission.
