He was the first world flyweight champion certified by the World Boxing Council, and he was also certified by the World Boxing Association and The Ring. Yuri Arbachakov used the ring name Yuri Ebihara in honor of him and the Pokémon エビワラー, known as Hitmonchan in the English-speaking world, is named after him.
