Who is Hmu Aung?

Bohmu Aung, born San Hlaing was a member of the Thirty Comrades. Bo Hmu Aung was born in Kyauktaga, Pegu Province, Burma in 1910 and died on 9 November 2004 at his residence in Rangoon.

His political activities started when he joined Dobama Asiayone in 1930 and Thirty Comrades in 1941. These organisations were created to gain independence from Britain. General Aung San is top national leader of Burma. U Aung Zan Wai, U Pe Khin, Major Aung, Sir Maung Gyi, Dr. Sein Mya Maung, Myoma U Than Kywe were most important negotiators and leaders of the historical panglong Conference negotiated with Burma national top leader General Aung San and other top leaders in 1947. All these leaders decided to join together to form the Union of Burma. Union day celebration is one of the greatest in the history of Burma.

After independence, Bo Hmu Aung was a member of parliament, deputy chairman of parliament, and a minister in various ministries, such as transport and communication, housing and resettlement and defence. He was detained and put under house arrest many times after the military coup in 1962. Released in 1967, he joined U Nu's insurgent PDP in Thailand, but returned to Rangoon after the 1980 amnesty.
