Who is Humphry Wakefield?
Sir Edward Humphry Tyrrell Wakefield, 2nd Baronet, of Kendal, in the County of Westmorland, better known as Sir Humphry Wakefield is an English baronet who succeeded his father, Sir Edward Birkbeck Wakefield in the baronetcy in 1969.
Wakefield was the elder son of the politician Edward Wakefield, later created a baronet, by his wife Lalage, born Lalage Thompson, the second child of Sir John Perronet Thompson.
Wakefield purchased Chillingham Castle, Northumberland, England, from the aristocratic and noble Grey family, of Northumberland, the family of his third wife Catherine, daughter of Lady Mary Grey. He has since restored the ruined castle to a habitable state to house his wide collection of antiquities, from his own collection and those of his relations.
Wakefield holds a Master in Art degree from Cambridge University. He has made his career a study of antique furniture and historic restoration. He worked for Christie's of London, and subsequently became director of an antique firm.
