Who was Ignatius Nuh of Lebanon?

Mor Ignatius Nuh of Lebanon was the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and Syria from 1494 to 1509. He was a convert to orthodoxy from the Maronite Church. He was ordained a priest and then became metropolitan of Homs in 1480 with the name Cyril. Subsequently, he taught among the Maronites and brought a number of priests and their congregations over from the Latin Catholic Rite to the Orthodox. He became the Maphryono of the East in 1489, and then became the patriarch in 1494. While patriarch of Antioch he became involved in a jurisdictional dispute with the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Tur Abdin, each of whom wanted to appoint the new bishop of Mardin. He died at Homs on July 28, 1509.

He was a poet and a writer who wrote odes and verse pieces, although rated as a mediocre poet.
