Who was Irene Astor, Baroness Astor of Hever?

Irene Violet Freesia Janet Augusta Haig was an English baroness and member of the Astor family.

Irene was the youngest of four children born to Douglas Haig and Dorothy Maud Vivian. Her brother was George Alexander Eugene Douglas Haig. She became styled as Baroness Astor of Hever when her husband became Baron in 1971.

She married Gavin Astor, the eldest son of John Jacob Astor V and Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound of the Astor family, on 4 October 1945. They had five children:

⁕John Jacob "Johnny" Astor VIII married twice; three daughters from first marriage, two children from second marriage

⁕Bridget Mary Astor married twice; two sons from first marriage, one daughter from second marriage.

⁕Elizabeth Louise Astor married twice; two children from second marriage

⁕Sarah Violet Astor married George Edward Lopes and has three children. Their son Harry Marcus George Lopes is married to Laura Rose Parker Bowles, daughter of Andrew Henry Parker Bowles and Camilla Rosemary Shand
