Who was István Szijjártó?
István Szijjártó was a Slovene evangelic teacher and poet in Hungary.
He was born in Večeslavci, near the Styrian border. His father was Iván Szijjártó a Slovene peasant. Szijjártó studied in Nemescsó and in Sopron, in the evangelic lyceum. He taught in Križevci from 1787–1806 in Puconci. He worked later in Domanjševci, where he died.
In 1796, his hymn-book Mrtvecsne Peszmi of funeral songs was published.
