Who is Ivo Opstelten?
Ivo Willem Opstelten is a Dutch politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. He has been the Minister of Security and Justice in the Cabinets Rutte I and II since October 14, 2010. He previously served as the Mayor of Dalen from 1972 to 1977 when he became Mayor of Doorn serving until 1980 when he became Mayor of Delfzijl, during that time he also served Acting Mayor of Beerta from 1983 until 1984. In 1987 he resigned as Mayor of Delfzijl to become the Director-General for Public Order and Security at the Ministry of Interior, in 1992 he left the Ministry when he was selected as the Mayor of Utrecht. In 1999, he was nominated as the Mayor of his birthplace of Rotterdam and traded Utrecht for Rotterdam on February 16, 1999. On May 23, 2008, he was elected as the Party chair of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy and stayed as Mayor of Rotterdam until his retirement on January 1, 2009. He also served as Acting Mayor of Tilburg from 2009 to 2010.
