Who was James Henry McLean?

James Henry Mclean was a U.S. Representative from Missouri.

Born in Ayrshire, Scotland, McleanReared in Nova Scotia, Canada. Immigrated to the United States in 1842 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was employed as a clerk in a drug store. He moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1849, and in the following year to New Orleans, Louisiana, to take charge of financial operations of the Lopez expedition to Cuba. He returned to St. Louis in 1851. He studied medicine and surgery. He was graduated from the St. Louis Medical College in 1863 and practiced in St. Louis.

Mclean was elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Thomas Allen and served from December 15, 1882, to March 3, 1883. He died in Dansville, New York on August 12, 1886, and was buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
