Who was Jan Nepomucen Bobrowicz?

Jan Nepomucen de Bobrowicz was a Polish virtuoso guitarist, composer, music editor and publisher. He has been called "the Chopin of guitar" by his contemporaries. Most of his guitar pieces are in the form of themes and variations.

He worked as an editor for the music-publishing firm of Breitkopf & Härtel. Later he ran his own publishing business. He was responsible for probably hundreds of titles, published mainly in Polish. The venture which probably brought him most fame, was when he was responsible for preparing a 4th–10th edition of the original classical genealogical and heraldic reference Herbarz Polski by heraldist and author Kasper Niesiecki, volumes 4–10, the editions appeared in the years 1839–1846 by publisher Breitkopf & Härtel.
