Who was Johan Willem Beyen?
Johan Willem Beyen was a Dutch banker, civil servant, politician, and diplomat. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands 1952–1956. Beyen played an important role in the creation of the European Economic Community, and is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the European Union. The 1981–1982 academic year at the College of Europe was named in his honour.
