Who is Janis Johnson?

Janis Gudrun Johnson, OC is a Canadian Senator representing Manitoba.

Born in Winnipeg, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1968 from the University of Manitoba. A public affairs consultant and writer, Johnson was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in 1990. She is currently Co-Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-parliamentary Group and a member of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Senate Standing Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources.

She was the second wife of Frank Moores, the second premier of Newfoundland and Labrador after Confederation. Her father, George Johnson, was nominated as Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba by Brian Mulroney.

Johnson has been chair of the Gimli film festival since its inception in 2000.

In 2000, she was awarded Iceland's Order of the Falcon.
