Who was Jay T. Robbins?
Jay Thorpe Robbins was a career officer in the United States Air Force who rose to the rank of lieutenant general.
He started his Air Force career in 1941. He spent his wartime service in the Fifth Air Force in the Southwest Pacific. He rose to command the 8th Fighter Group. At war's end, he was a quadruple ace with 22 kills.
After the war, he rose in command and retired, in 1974, as vice-commander of the Military Airlift Command.
General Robbins died in 2001 at the age of 81.
