Who is Jayme Stone?

Jayme Stone is a Canadian banjoist, composer and producer who makes music inspired by sounds from around the world. His solo album The Utmost won the 2008 Juno Award for Instrumental Album of the Year. With Mansa Sissoko, he won the 2009 Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year for their album Africa to Appalachia. Stone's third album, Room of Wonders, won him a Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year in 2011.

Stone has studied with Béla Fleck's teacher, Tony Trischka, among others.

Stone traveled to Mali in 2007 to learn about the banjo's African roots, and subsequently released a Africa to Appalachia in June 2008. Canadian journalist Brianna Goldberg produced a radio documentary about the making of the album, which aired on CBC Radio One.
