Who was Jean Alexis Duparchy?
One of a group of French engineers working all over the world in the second half of the 19th Century. He worked in Portugal, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tunisia, and was also involved with de Lessops on the Suez canal. This work led to great distinction in France including the "Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur,. Portugal awarded him the Commandeur du Christ, while Spain awarded him "Commandeur de l'ordre de Charles III"
