Who is Jeffrey Guterman?

Jeffrey Guterman is an American mental health counselor, educator, and author. He is author of the book, Mastering the Art of Solution-Focused Counseling, which was published by the American Counseling Association in 2006. A second edition of this book was published by the American Counseling Association in 2013. Guterman obtained a B.A. in psychology from Boston University in 1980. In 1985, he obtained an M.S. in counseling psychology from Nova Southeastern University. In 1991, he received an M.S. in family therapy from Nova Southeastern University. In 1992, he was awarded a Ph.D. in family therapy from Nova Southeastern University. In the 1980s, Guterman was influenced by rational emotive behavior therapy and received personal psychotherapy, training, and supervision in the model from its founder Albert Ellis. In the 1990s, Guterman developed a solution focused brief therapy model called solution-focused counseling. Solution-focused counseling is an integration of solution-focused principles and techniques, postmodern theories, and a strategic approach to eclecticism.
