Who is Jesse Selengut?
Jesse Selengut is a New York City based trumpeter, composer, and singer.
A noted performer of American Roots music, Selengut helped create “Treasures of the Sea” and “The Cangelosi Cards”. He now sings, composes, & plays trumpet in Tin Pan that includes notables Clifton Hyde, Stefan Zeniuk, and Pete "Baby Hands" Maness.
Selengut leads the contemporary jazz group NOIR which performed in the World Harmony tour in Kenya in 2007 to raise money and awareness for the Shangilia Orphanage in Nairobi.
In the free jazz and avant-garde idiom, Jesse Selengut has performed with Dave Douglas, Butch Morris, Kenny Wollesen, Sabir Matteen and Daniel Carter.
Jesse Selengut founded, directed and produced the Williamsburg Jazz Festival from its inception in 2003 to its final year in 2007. This annual multi-stage event took place in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, NY and ran consecutively for 5 years. Performers have included Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Nellie McKay, Wayne Krantz, Steve Coleman, Dafnis Prieto, Eric Reed, and Yosvany Terry among others.
Selengut is also a percussionist of long-standing. In 1996 he formed an organization called Full Circle Drumming. Full Circle Drumming provides drumming workshops for social work organizations and corporations. Often presented as “mind expansion” exercises, the drumming workshops provide an opportunity for people of all kinds to benefit from the deep personal and interpersonal connection that can be experienced by drumming and music in general. To date, Selengut has led over 4000 participants in drum circles that have taken place all over the world.
