Who is Jim Ballantyne?

Jim Ballantyne is currently chairman of Scottish association football team Airdrieonians, president of the Scottish Football League, and serves on the board of the Scottish Football Association.

Ballantyne has been chairman of Airdrieonians since its inception as Airdrie United in 2002 when he bought out Clydebank and this allowed Airdrie United to take their place in the Scottish Second Division. The motivation behind the move was to create a replacement team for Airdrieonians who had gone out of business the same year due to crippling debts. He had first attempted to gain entry to the Scottish Football League with the team of Airdrie United by applying for the club to fill the void created when the original Airdrieonians F.C. closed. However, Gretna were instead accepted.

Mr Ballantyne was a shareholder of Rangers FC in 2008, owning 568 shares in Rangers FC while chairman of Airdrie FC.
