Jim Scott Burton was a middle relief pitcher who played for the Boston Red Sox in the 1975 and 1977 seasons. Listed at 6 feet 3 inches, 175 pounds, Burton batted right-handed and threw left-handed. He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan.

The Red Sox drafted Burton out of the University of Michigan in the first round of the 1971 draft. He was 25 years old when he made his major league debut on June 10, 1975. His uniform number was 43.
