Who was Johannes Viljoen?
Johannes Hendrikus Viljoen was a South African athlete who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics.
He was born in Hanover and died in Centurion.
In 1928 he finished 24th the triple jump event and 38th in the long jump competition. In the 110 metre hurdles contest he was eliminated in the semi-finals and in the 100 metres event he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. He also participated in the decathlon competition but was eliminated after seven events.
At the 1930 Empire Games he won the gold medal in the high jump contest and the bronze medal in the long jump competition. In the 120 yards hurdles event he finished fourth. He also participated in the 220 yards, in the 440 yards hurdles, and in the hammer throw contests. Four years later at the 1934 British Empire Games he participated in the final of the 120 yards hurdles competition but did not finish the race.
