Who is John C. Dugan?

John C. Dugan was the 29th Comptroller of the Currency for the United States Department of the Treasury, sworn in August 2005. He completed his term on August 14, 2010.

The Comptroller of the Currency is the administrator of national banks and chief officer of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The OCC supervises more than 1,500 federally chartered commercial banks and 50 federal branches and agencies of foreign banks in the United States, comprising more than half the assets of the commercial banking system. The Comptroller also serves as a director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, and NeighborWorks America. In September 2007, Comptroller Dugan was appointed Chairman of the Joint Forum, which is a group of senior financial sector regulators from the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia that deals with issues common to the banking, securities, and insurance industries, including supervision of conglomerates.

Comptroller Dugan was the Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance in 1992 and served in Department of the Treasury from 1989 to 1993.
