Who was John E. Kerrigan?
John E. Kerrigan was the acting mayor of Boston in 1945 when Maurice J. Tobin was elected Governor. Kerrigan was later given full mayoral powers by the Legislature but was defeated in the mayoral race later that year by James Michael Curley.
Kerrigan began serving on the Boston City Council in 1933. Kerrigan retired from the Council in 1973—having served 15 terms. Kerrigan also served in the State Senate.
