Who is John Grant, 13th Earl of Dysart?

John Peter Grant, 13th Earl of Dysart, DL, styled Lord Huntingtower from 2003 to 2011, also named as Johnnie Grant, is a Scottish peer, landowner and conservationist. He owns the Rothiemurchus estate, including Rothiemurchus Forest, in the Scottish Highlands.

Dysart is the son of Lt Col John Peter Grant, 15th Laird of Rothiemurchus, and his wife Lady Katherine, née Greaves. He was educated at Gordonstoun.

In 1971, Dysart married Philippa Chance, by whom he has three children:

⁕Lady Louisa Katherine Grant

⁕John Patrick Grant, Lord Huntingtower

⁕Lady Alexandra Rose Grant

Dysart was appointed a deputy lieutenant of Inverness-shire in 1986, and succeeded his father as Laird of Rothiemurchus, in the Cairngorms, in 1987. He has held office in a number of nature, land ownership, and conservation organizations since 1989, and was president of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland from 1996 to 2006. The Rothiemurchus estate has traditionally been supported, in part, by revenue from deer hunting, but in the face of the economic crisis of the late 2000s, Dysart and his wife have introduced a variety of other outdoor activities on the estate. In 2003, his mother Lady Katherine succeeded her elder sister, Lady Rosamund, as Countess of Dysart. Upon her death in 2011, Dysart inherited her titles.
